Jobs At Newsvine
Newsvine is a great place to work. Our office is in the scenic Queen Anne/Belltown/Waterfront district of downtown Seattle, and we're situated right next to Myrtle Edwards Park and Elliott Bay. We have a barbeque on our deck, plenty of beer in the fridge, and a great jogging route right outside the front door.
Additionally, Newsvine is always looking for people in any location who are well-connected to writers who specialize in any of our main category topics (Sports, Politics, Business, Science, etc.). Interactive Designer
Newsvine is seeking a talented interactive designer to help design and produce both the next incarnation of Newsvine.com and many other community and social related features around msnbc.com and its family of sites. While experience designing major sites -- especially news-oriented ones -- is a plus, strength of design skills and communication abilities are the two most important qualities the successful candidate will possess. If you're a rabid consumer of online news, blogs, RSS feeds and an early adopter of design technologies, you may be a great fit for this position. If you're still using Photoshop 4, Dreamweaver 2, any version of Internet Explorer, or you wish web sites would act more like newspapers, this is probably not your ideal environment.
This position will report directly to the CEO.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead all design initiatives at Newsvine
- Participate in the design of social news initiatives around the msnbc.com family of sites
- Design documentation, screencasts, and other features geared at helping end users
- Coordinate and lead information architecture efforts for all new projects
- Help envision, invent, and produce new features for all social news initiatives
Experience Required
- Strong portfolio of design examples with emphasis on quality over size of client/project
- Mastery of Photoshop, Illustrator, HTML, and CSS required
- Skills with Flash, Javascript frameworks, subversion, and other relevant technologies a plus
- Ability to work with small teams and loosely defined guidelines
- Proven ability to work effectively with developers and engineers
- Good verbal and written communication skills
